For the first time since 1996, permanent employment for senior public hospital doctors is imminent, after eight meetings of the WA Health & AMA (WA) Permanency Working Group to determine details related to the transition process.

WA Health is seeking the required approvals and finalisation of administrative instruments that will enable the transition of current employees to commence.

The transition process will likely result in an individual review of each senior doctor to ensure the position is eligible for permanent employment. New employees will be employed pursuant to revised Agreement provisions that will create a right to permanent employment, and fixed-term employment for specified reasons. The 2022 Agreement will be amended prior to commencement of the next round of bargaining.

AMA (WA) members will benefit from free advice and guidance through this process, including representation for individual issues experienced as part of the permanency transition process. Complete the  IR Query Form to access advice and representation services.
