2024 WA Health Agreement – Committee seeks improved offer

Friday July 5, 2024

The AMA (WA) Bargaining Committee has formally rejected WA Health’s first offer in our negotiations to replace the current Industrial Agreement.

Since January 2024, the AMA (WA) has been in negotiations with WA Health to replace the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners – AMA Industrial Agreement 2022 (the Agreement). This agreement, set to expire in early September 2024, is critical for all doctors working within the WA Health system, as it outlines essential terms such as salary rates, allowances, penalty rates, and leave provisions.

To represent the AMA (WA) in the negotiations, the Bargaining Committee comprises a cross-section of the broader AMA (WA) membership, with representatives from all the health service providers, as well as a good mix of senior and junior practitioners.

On 20 June, the AMA (WA) Bargaining Committee received the first offer from WA Health. This offer marks an important step in the bargaining process and was reviewed in detail by the Committee and the AMA (WA) Industrial Relations Team. After thorough consideration, the AMA (WA) Bargaining Committee has formally rejected WA Health’s first offer. The Bargaining Committee felt the first offer fell short in several key areas, particularly regarding the attraction and retention of quality medical practitioners within WA.

The Bargaining Committee will now engage further with WA Health and the Government Bargaining Representatives to work towards an improved offer. If you’d like to find out more about the negotiation processes, and read all the documents, visit the WA Health Industrial Agreement Bargaining page.
