Doctor receives back pay following recall payment dispute

The AMA (WA) Industrial Relations team recently achieved a significant outcome for one of our members, ensuring they received the correct entitlements for their work.
The case involved a doctor whose ordinary rostered shift ended at 5pm, transitioning into an on-call period overnight. A dispute arose when a WA Health Service Provider incorrectly classified the doctor’s continuation of work as shift overruns instead of recalls, resulting in a miscalculation of overtime payments.
The AMA (WA) challenged the classification and raised a formal dispute, asserting that the doctor was entitled to recall payments on 10 separate occasions over an extended period. Thanks to our advocacy, the Health Service Provider reviewed the matter, corrected the classification, and issued back pay to the practitioner for the underpaid amounts.
