Hospital Health Check 2025 – hold your hospital to account
Friday March 7, 2025
The Hospital Health Check (HHC) is back for another year, giving Doctors in Training (DiTs) across WA the opportunity to hold their workplaces accountable.
More than just a survey, the HHC is a powerful tool for tracking working conditions and influencing change on key issues like rosters, overtime, payslips, training opportunities, and workplace culture.
The survey is open now and closes at 3pm on 26 March 2025.
Last year’s HHC saw record participation, with over 1,110 junior doctors taking part. While some improvements were noted, reflecting various initiatives to address concerns with workplace conditions, major concerns remained. Workplace entitlements and flexibility scored poorly across the board, with no hospital managing higher than a D grade. High levels of burnout persisted, and bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment continued to be serious, underreported issues in the system.
This year, new questions have been added to capture the experiences of Service Registrars and those in training programs, ensuring a more comprehensive picture of conditions across the workforce. The AMA (WA) has again requested that Health Service Providers allow DiTs to complete the survey during work hours by allocating non-clinical time, though the survey remains entirely independent and anonymous.
HHC results don’t just highlight problems. Hospital administrators review the findings, and some facilities use them to guide workplace improvements. The results also serve as an invaluable resource for Interns choosing where to apply for their first jobs in 2026.
