Join the WADO and make a difference through music

Friday July 26, 2024

The West Australian Doctors Orchestra (WADO) is calling all doctors and medical students with a passion for classical music to join its ranks. Formed in 2006, WADO brings together classically trained musicians from the medical field to create beautiful music while supporting charitable causes. Every two years, these talented individuals come together to rehearse and perform a classical repertoire under the guidance of renowned conductor Mark Coughlan.

This year, WADO is delighted to support the Saba Rose Button Foundation, a not-for-profit charity dedicated to assisting children with additional needs and their families. The charity was originally established to help Saba, a young girl with cerebral palsy secondary to an acquired brain injury. Today, the Saba Rose Button Foundation provides crucial support through programs such as rehabME, rechargeME, and REGIONAL rehabME, which offer financial assistance for therapy, specialised equipment, parental respite, and in-home care anywhere in Western Australia.

One of the highlights of the 2024 concert will be Lalo’s Symphony Espagnole, featuring fourth-year UWA medical student Emily Leung as the soloist. Emily, the first international recipient of the prestigious Wells scholarship, has studied under world-renowned violin teacher Professor Mauricio Fuks at the Indiana Jacobs School of Music and has performed all around the world. She is delighted to return to perform with the WA Doctor Orchestra for this challenging and joyous piece.

In addition to Lalo’s Symphony Espagnole, the concert program includes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 ‘Pathetique’.
